The Montana Film Coalition (MFC) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization of Montana-based film & entertainment production industry professionals, business owners and real estate entrepreneurs. Members share a common goal of establishing Montana as a leading film & television production destination.
MFC's goal is to expand the MEDIA Act and create long-term economic opportunity for Montana. We aim to create jobs and grow the economy by building a vibrant production industry within the state and establishing Montana as a leading international destination for the creation of original moving media content.
MFC focuses on educating and building awareness - across communities, business organizations and legislative bodies - of the overwhelmingly positive economic benefits the film production industry has on the state and local economies.
Television and film productions employ between 100-300 people at a time. The average production-related annual wage is >50% higher than Montana's median per capita income. The vast majority of these jobs employ trades people including electricians, drivers, carpenters, audio/visual techs, hairdressers & beauticians.
Incentivizing film and TV productions indirectly incentivizes significant capital investment needed to build industrial production facilities and locate production-related businesses in the state.
Local businesses and economies are the primary beneficiaries when "movies come to town". Film productions fill restaurants and hotel rooms, boost tourism, and keep caterers, equipment rentals, dry-cleaners and river guides busy, even in shoulder season.
People are watching more movies and TV than ever before. As a result, investment in the production of original content has exploded. Film production is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. By investing in this industry, Montana can diversify and expand its economy significantly
Montana is home to two universities with film & media production programs. Without an industry, these students must leave MT to pursue their dreams. Film productions also create exciting and lucrative career path alternatives for technical college graduates.
